University-industry collaborations: the commercialization of academic knowledge
Within the domain of university-industry collaborations (UIC), this track focuses on the commercial potential of academic knowledge. Universities are increasingly strengthening the commercial value of their scientific research, recurring to licensing deals, creating academic spin-offs and developing university-industry research centres. However, there is little understanding of the antecedents (e.g. cognitive distance, previous collaboration experience, breadth of interaction) of successful commercialization, on the organizational dynamics of university-industry relationships, on how universities manage the heterogeneity of industry partners. Qualitative and quantitative contributions that analyse the antecedents, mechanisms, and consequences of commercialization of scientific research are welcome.
