The front-end of innovation is seen as a critical stage for achieving successful outcomes. Despite available knowledge, which has described its ‘fuzzy' features and articulated best practices, the front-end of innovation confronts new challenges in which organisations need to address innovations from an integrated perspective of products, services and technologies either for ongoing or for new businesses. In this context, the applications of standalone and traditional management approaches have been changing towards the integrated deployment of new approaches based on team working, visual practices, iterative knowledge building and result-oriented activities. The session welcomes contributions on practical management approaches, such as roadmapping, design thinking, agile management, business models, organisational designs for pre-competitive activities and product services systems. The session is motivated by interest in this theme by the Institute for Innovation and Product Development Management (, a Brazilian research network.
