SMEs are increasingly opening their innovation processes, as this means accessing technological and market competences, reducing risks and costs, and increasing internal intellectual capital. The exploration (and analysis) of the technological environment is a very important task for open SMEs, as it provides information about technological trends and opportunities, emerging technological discontinuities, technologies and partners of interest. The literature on technology intelligence for SMEs is still limited, and importantly tools are not tailored for SMEs limited financial resources and (sometimes) competencies. This session aims at collecting contributions that enlarge and discuss the theory on technology intelligence for open SMEs and also propose methods and tools specifically tailored for supporting SMEs decision making in open innovation processes.
