Regional innovation systems and impact of enterprise development, clusters and networks

Regional innovation systems and impact of enterprise development, clusters and networks

Anton Kriz, The University of Newcastle, Australia

Entrepreneurial discovery and smart specialisation are key elements of a European platform for regional development and growth. The US is becoming equally conscious of promoting clusters and regional competitiveness. These are complex systems and the challenge for policymakers is to understand how best to stimulate enterprise and cluster development to enhance such regional innovation systems. Innovation and R&D is fundamental to such change. Stimulating entrepreneurship but equally entrepreneurial activities in existing business and how this links to clusters and networks is a key element. This session investigates from a global perspective how different countries are addressing such policy challenges.
