Building innovation capabilities in emerging economies: firms, states and institutions

During the last two decades emerging economy firms (EEFs) have emerged as challengers to established product and market leaders from advanced economies. The EEF challengers have to start by acquiring basic product knowledge, upgrade to more complex technological and managerial levels and rapidly progress on unknown innovation paths. The limited evidence that exists indicates that this is a far from linear and straightforward process. This session invites researchers who want to contribute to our understanding of innovation in emerging economy firms, who are interested in new ways of building R&D capabilities, and scholars who study the changing global competition in innovation and product development.
