Value co-creation and open innovation: to what extent are they converging paradigms?

Barbara AquilaniUniversity of Tuscia - Viterbo

Value co-creation is an emerging paradigm in management literature, as is open innovation in innovation management. These two literature streams have mostly developed in parallel. But only coupled open innovation processes are recognized as leading to value co-creation by Ramaswamy, for example, and recently co-creation has been considered as a means to enable union between open innovation and user innovation theories. The main research question is: to what extent do open innovation and value co-creation paradigms converge? And are they really converging? Theoretical as well as empirical contributions to clarify these issues are welcome.
