Networks linking industrial firms to universities have potential to provide innovative ideas and wealth creation.  However, academics are often under pressure to demonstrate their research creates knowledge that is relevant and consumable to business and society.

Companies need to be fully convinced that collaborating with universities leads to innovation and value creation, especially in the context of developing countries. Some corporate sponsored university laboratories have enabled firms to develop strategic partnerships via this type of collaboration. In this session we aim to analyse benefits and drawbacks of this and other types of U-I collaborations, both from academic and practical perspectives.
